Help Us Save Our Beautiful Planet
Saving Water Saves the Planet
Plant a deep water pipe today to help save your water!
Saving water
Only a mere 2% of our planet’s water is available as drinkable freshwater. The remaining 98% is comprised of saltwater, making it unfit for human consumption and most everyday uses. This limited freshwater resource is responsible is needed for our ever-growing global population, which currently stands at 8.1 billion people. By adopting water-saving practices and innovative solutions like our homemade irrigation system, we can make a significant difference in conserving this precious 2% of freshwater. This not only benefits us today but also ensures a sustainable water supply for future generations.

Impact
The bar graph on the right measures the total amount of water used to water trees on a weekly basis. There are many cities in California, but a few cities are selected to show a smaller scale. Half of this water would be wasted due to poor watering methods.

The graph on the left illustrates the amount of water in gallons that can be saved when using our irrigation pipe. The cities are the same as the graph above. Our model can save up to fifty percent of the normal amount used, because our system touches the deep roots of the tree. This prevents the water from evaporating quickly before the trees’ roots can absorb it, and it’s a safe-proof plan to avoid overwatering at the same time.
How?
Using our step by step instructions, you can make a deep-watering irrigation pipe at home using basic materials from a hardware store, Lowe’s. The pipe is specifically designed to water the deep roots of the tree for a longer time compared to the higher parts of the tree’s roots, which will help water more efficiently.
About The Project
Water conservation
Promotes efficient water usage by targeting the deep roots of trees. This approach helps conserve water resources by delivering water where it’s most needed, reducing wastage through surface evaporation.
Tree Health and Growth
Providing water to the deep roots of trees, this irrigation system can significantly contribute to the health and growth of trees. Your tree will grow much faster and produce more when it is supplied with enough water.
Youth Initiative
As a teenage Girl Scout, this project demonstrates youth empowerment and leadership. It shows that young people can take the initiative to address environmental issues and make a positive impact in their communities.
Cost-Effective
It provides an affordable alternative to commercial irrigation systems. You can make 5 of these pipes for around $30 using basic materials!
About Me
Hi! My name is Elina and I’m a 16 year old girl scout who started this nonprofit project as my Gold Award. It’s purpose to help homeowners save up to 50% of the water they use for their backyard by making their own DIY irrigation pipe at home.
